Wildlife by Renee

Australia is home to such an amazing and uniquely evolved range of wildlife, the subjects for my artwork are limitless.  It can take a while to get to know their habits and to get good reference photos, but this is half the joy of wildlife art. Living and working in the rainforest of North Queensland (previously the deserts of the Pilbara in Western Australia) and having travelled extensively throughout remote Australia with camera in hand, fortunately wildlife subjects are varied and plentiful.

I try and capture wildlife both in their natural setting and their habits as much as possible to convey more than just the impression of the animal. I also like to paint wildlife that many people may not be as familiar with, and hopefully educate people about just what is out there.  I work in a variety of media, using the characteristics of each medium to capture an aspect of a subject.  I find that pastels on velour paper is great to capture the softness of fur, watercolours for movement and oils for rich colours.
